Alexander Garner"Hi, I’m Alex! I’m in the Kieffer lab which is focused on developing stem cell-based therapies for diabetes. My project focuses on alpha cells and the role they might play in a future therapy. Outside the lab I love to play board, card, and tabletop games. I joined CPhyGS because I wanted to help bring people together and make a positive difference in the graduate community." |
Madeleine Goldstein"Hi! I’m Maddy from the Weidberg Lab. I graduated from UBC with a BSc in Biochemistry. I am currently a Master’s student in the CELL program. My project aims to identify cellular mechanisms that maintain mitochondrial proteostasis during stress and understand the fundamental biology that governs mitochondrial function. |
George Brownrigg"I graduated from UBC with a BSc in Integrated Sciences with a focus on genetics and physiology. During my undergraduate degree I became interested in studying sex differences while working with fruit flies in Rideout lab and now I am a Masters student in the Rideout and Johnson labs. My project uses mice to study sex differences in the ER stress response in beta cells and its relationship to diabetes. In my spare time, I enjoy swimming, spending time outside and skiing at the local mountains. |
Aurora Mattison"PhD candidate studying the role of the type 2 ryanodine receptor calcium release channel in the pancreatic beta cell. When I am not sitting in front of a microscope, I enjoy reading, baking and animals of all shapes and sizes!" |
Zixuan (Christina) Yuan"Hello, I’m Christina from Hilla Weidberg Lab. I am currently doing my Master’s degree under CELL program. I graduated from University of Toronto with BSc in Physiology. During undergrad, I studied incretin function in type-2 diabetes. Now, I use the budding yeast to study mitochondrial stress response. Outside the lab, I enjoy training, swimming and tennis. I also love traveling around the city to try different local cafes and bakeries. |
Zazil Solis"¡Hola! I’m Zazil from the Auld Lab. I am currently a master’s student in the CELL program. I graduated from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (Chihuahua, Mexico) with BEng in Biotechnology. |
